What it says. India and the EU announced the conclusion of negotiations on 27 Jan 2026. Reports say India gets preferential access across about 97% of EU tariff lines, and the EU withdrew its preferential tariff scheme for India from 1 Jan 2026. In June, the European Commission President said the pact would be signed by the end of 2026, so the signing and entry into force are not settled in the sources I found. The same exam-prep source says the India-UK agreement came into force on 15 Jul 2026, which I could not confirm elsewhere.
SMARTE view. Europe is where our quality story is strongest, and duty cuts would let us price against Turkish and Chinese suppliers. The agreement does not remove carbon rules or standards, so a price advantage will go to whoever has the paperwork.
